When I made my appointment for my diagnostic mammogram and ultra sound I wasn't really paying attention. I thought I was supposed to go to the Kettering Breast Evaluation Center at Lincoln Park. My notes made no sense since the suite number was in the 3000's and the building I was at only went up to the 200's. I did finally find the place, signed in and patiently (ha ha, get the pun?) waited until the gal said to me, I don't have you on my list. As it turns out, I was in the wrong office, since they don't do ultrasound there, rather it is done at the hospital in Kettering, where they have another location. They were kind enough to do my mammogram and shoot it over to the other office while I drove over.
I've never had an ultrasound so the technician asks me the usual questions: Pregnant? (God no!) Taking hormones? (Only thyroid.) Last mammogram? (20 minutes ago.) Family history? (Mom died of breast cancer.) She asks me about the area she is to look at, takes a gander at the latest mammogram and says, nothing is showing up on it and starts.
So the image kind of looks like this - lots of clouds with the occasional storm center in black. She gets real serious real fast. There a black smudge in the middle of the screen and she's marking and measuring it. Then she does the whole rest of the boob. It takes about an hour. She tells me to get dressed and says she's going to consult with the doctor and I'll have an answer/some instructions before I leave today.
Commencing initial freak out.
She returns shortly and says the radiologist recommends an ultrasound guided biopsy, that they will contact Dr. T and I shouldn't call right away, but give her a few days for her to get the report and get back to them with the order as it generally takes 2 - 4 days.
I get a call from their office the next morning to schedule it a little over a week out.
